International Joint Workshop on DX Research and Education to Realize Sustainable Food Production (ONLINE)

The environment surrounding agriculture is changing daily with abnormal weather conditions due to climate change, the outbreak of conflicts among nations, the increase in the world population, and the growing interest in the SDGs. Various efforts to realize sustainable agricultural production have begun in response to these circumstances. In particular, smart agriculture is currently being vigorously researched around the world as a concept and technology essential for the sustainable development of agriculture. As a result, there has been progressed to improve and optimize cultivation and management techniques that utilize information on the field environment and plant growth. However, no matter how excellent technology is developed, it is meaningless unless properly and fully used in plant cultivation management.
For example, the spread of information and communication technology (ICT) has made it possible to efficiently and automatically collect large amounts of agricultural information. On the other hand, without the knowledge and technology to effectively use the vast amount of data collected in the field, it will be impossible to utilize this information for cultivation management. Therefore, it is essential to accelerate the digital transformation (DX) of agricultural production and develop human resources which can effectively utilize the collected information in the farm field.
In this workshop, we will introduce case studies of DX education and research in the field of agriculture in various countries and discuss visions for agricultural DX human resource development.
